Gandowana.

‘Moa’ to the people of Utuseb.
‘Elephant Bird’ to the people of Simurgh.

The Gandowana is a giant flightless bird that nests in the foothills of the Southern Mountains.

Whilst its vestigial wings lend it an almost comic like appearance, it is very much not to be taken lightly.

Standing well over 12` tall and weighing over 600 lbs, the Gandowana is quite capable of kicking a mountain lion to death or piercing the toughest armour with its razor sharp beak.
Whilst it can not maintain its top speed for long, it can, for short distances outrun the desert wolf and the aforementioned mountain lion.
Its feet have long claws that can shred plate armour.

As if all this were not enough, due to its unusual digestive system, it eats small rocks to grind up its food.
In an emergency the Gandowana can regurgitate these rocks and spit them at predators.

Below we see the tribesmen of Utuseb hunting Gandowana, not something to be taken lightly.

Hyena.

The desert hyena is a predator capable of killing larger prey unlike the lesser hyena which is mostly a scavenger.

The desert hyena is mostly nocturnal but will venture out in the twilight hours if it senses an easy kill.

They typically wander in packs of 3 to 6 animals and are territorial.

Grey Ape.

The Grey Apes are found on lost islands in the Southern Oceans.

Standing around 7 to 8 feet tall with an impressive physique, they are quite capable of crushing someone with their bare hands.

They show a rudimentary intelligence and some say this ape is in fact an ancient race from which humans descended.

They mostly live in natural shelters such as caves and often in small social groups.

Ghoul.

The Ghoul is a savage and corrupted creature with an appearance very similar to that of people.

They possess clawed digits and also an extra carpal claw on their hands and feet.
Their teeth are pointed and more akin to fangs.

It is suspected by some scholars that they are a cursed race of ancients or perhaps an off-shoot of human evolution.
Whatever their origins they are predators and viscous.
